Basil Savitsky, PhD, is with Addiction Professionals of NC (APNC). He serves as the Director of the NC Partnership for Success (PFS) — a five-year SAMHSA grant to prevent underage drinking, vaping, and marijuana use. In his previous position with RHA Health Services, he managed the CURES/STR, the SPF/RX, and the Prevention Block Grants for Mitchell County. During 15 years in the university environment, he managed 25 projects, totaling $2.1M. He has been in the prevention field for the past 14 years, and has offered over 40 professional development trainings in school districts throughout the US on behavioral health, emotional intelligence, and social-emotional learning. He has provided over 75 trainings throughout Western NC on the Search Institute’s Developmental Assets, which provides communities with a framework to promote and measure progress in positive youth development. The Developmental Asset work has served to link faith communities, school systems, and after-school providers in the work of enhancing protective factors for youth. Dr. Savitsky seeks to bring both deep (value-based) and broad (community-wide) solutions to substance use and misuse by matching nationally recognized best practices to community needs and local capacity.
