Dean has worked in the field of substance use prevention and treatment over the entirety of his 30 year career. He has spent the past 22 years at UNC-CH working within the span of education, prevention science, early identification and intervention/referral, and ongoing recovery supports for students. Prior to campus life, Dean worked as a substance use counselor for 7 years in an adolescent inpatient treatment program in NC. He appreciates the opportunity to work across the continuum of care in the field, and particularly through the broader lens of holistic wellbeing in his current work. He considers the opportunity to work with bright and creative emerging adults and their families, and to support early life decision making and the establishment of practices regarding health and wellness habits that may span a lifetime, a job beyond his wildest dreams.
