Dr. Gary Junker currently serves as Director of Behavioral Health in the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Adult Prisons. In this role, Dr. Junker provides clinical and administrative oversight for behavioral health services across 55 prisons statewide to include psychology, social work and alcohol and chemical dependency programs. Dr. Junker possesses 29 years of clinical and management experience in diverse correctional settings. He served for 24 years as a clinician and administrator with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Prior to his current assignment, Dr. Junker was Regional Director of Behavioral Health serving the Tennessee Department of Correction. Dr. Junker holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from the University of New Mexico and a doctoral degree in counseling psychology from Georgia State University. Dr. Junker has authored and co-authored several peer reviewed articles and has presented on diverse topics related to correctional healthcare at conferences across the United States.
